Plant Spread DB

About

This site is still a work in progress - and probably will be for about the next 3 years.

This site provides an interactive database of invasive species publications with a forum to encourage discussion and collaboration. The interactive database currently contains fields for each publication's title, authors, year of publication, journal, volume, pages, a 'blurb' which is effectively a short summary, keywords (for searching), 'DOI' (Digital Object Identifier), URL for easy retrieval of the paper, and the bibTeX reference.

This site allows you to interact with the database of publications in several ways. First, you can search through all the publications in the database. At this point in time only a 'simple' search has been set up; where you choose a specific field to search through (eg title, authors) or all of the fields (ie "keyword anywhere"). In the future I will be expanding this search to include boolean operators (eg title AND author, author1 OR author2). Second, you are able to list all of the publications currently in the database. This has recently been updated to only show 30 publications at a time, with links to other pages at the top and bottom of the page. Third, you have the ability to 'generate' a bibliography from the database. Currently this only generates the data in a bibtex format (for use with LaTeX), but this can be expanded by popular demand as neccessary. Further improvements are planned for this functionality so that you can select which papers to be included in the 'file', and so that a file is in fact generated (as opposed to the current mechanism which simply prints the result on the webpage - with no html formatting to make it look 'pretty' - although it comes out fine in the page source code).

We have constructed this public database to allow for easy access to (hopefully) most of the publications relevant to the spread of invasive species. The idea of making this public is to encourage everyone in any aspect of the field of invasive species (or related areas) to contribute to the database and hence help make it a worthwhile tool for the community.
If you would like to contribute, edit, or give us any constructive feedback please contact one of us; either by email or via the forums. Only those with a login account are be able to add (or edit) publications in the database. Please note that the ability to register and subsequently post on the forums does not (and will not) grant anyone the immediate priviledge of being able to add to or edit the database.

With respect to the web links in the `URL' field, access to the full text is restricted to onsite UNSW@ADFA staff and students. Other visitors to this site can arrange access through their library.

New

* If you are interested in interacting with this database please get in touch and we'll set you up with a login.

* The forums are now up and running, although in their early stages. If you have any suggestions, feedback or issues with any aspect of this site please let us know (on the forums or via email).

* A link to each publication has been set up and filled in for most entries.

Progress

* The ability to generate a bibTeX style bibliography file is here. Now all we have to do is make it more user friendly.

Coming Soon

* Cross Referencing: so papers which are cited by other papers and vice versa (in the database) will be easily located.

* Boolean style searching.

Special Thanks

First, I would like to thank Danny Robson for aiding in the setup and improvement of this site.

Second, I would like to thank Annabelle Boag for typing in the entries you see under 'List'.
